At approximately 6PM HST on July 1st a fire broke out in the ceiling/roof of the Bali Hai Restaurant at the Hanalei Bay Resort. The fire department responded quickly to extinguish the fire and there were no reports of injuries.

The fire did not spread to any other buildings.

This will effect the location of the front desk operations and will likely further delay the opening of the new restaurant.

All other guest services remain available and all vacation rental operations will continue without interruption.

The main-upper pool at the Hanalei Bay Resort will be closing down for maintenance beginning November 2, 2011.  It should last approximately about 2-3 weeks, weather permitting.  The plan is to repair the flagstone around the edges, re-sculpt the bull nose , and re-stain all the lava rock around the pool and the hot tub.  It the meantime, the lower pool will stay open.  The resort staff we be looking into renting one of our neighbor’s pools as an additional option for guests.

Special rates are now available for Aloha Condos during that time and please do take advantage of these great deals in November 2011 if the pool is not important for your stay.

When I bought my condo back in 2000, I did a complete remodel and converted it from two hotel rooms into a spacious 1-bedroom 2-bathroom condo.  I’ve had many, many positive comments from my guests about how nice it was to stay in this configuration and I will continue to offer it this way.

Over the past 2 years, I’ve seen an increase in the number of guests who would like to stay at the Hanalei Bay Resort for less than $100 per night.  So I’ve added a new custom kitchenette to condo 1557 so that now each condo can be rented independently and you get kitchen features in both condos – 1557 and 1558.

Hanalei Bay Resort is still a fantastic place to stay on Kauai and with lounge and restaurant reopening this year, it will be even better.

The Hanalei Bay Resort restaurant and lounge will once again be open in 2011.

The new owners are excited to get started providing full restaurant and lounge services at the resort.  Nightly entertainment will again return to the lounge and we can not wait to again see and feel the Aloha.

My best estimate puts the opening sometime in late spring – May or early June.

The Bali Hai Restaurant and Happy Talk Lounge at the Hanalei Bay Resort sold today.

The new owner is the same owner of the successful Kalypso Restaurant in Hanalei.

This is EXCELLENT news and we can’t wait until they reopen – likely this summer.
