Discover Secret Hawaii

When thinking about Hawaiian vacations, most people think first of the glorious beaches and the soft warm waters around them. They might also think about the fascinating low cal customs, the colorful festivals, or the dramatic volcanic vistas which light up the sky at night. But Hawaii is a place which still holds a lot of secrets, and it takes a more adventurous kind of visitor to discover them.

Renting a condo in Hawaii gives you a great base from which to explore the interior. You can take a car to carry you around the main roads, but you’ll find that it’s impossible to drive down some of the steeper slopes of the interior – or at least, impossible to do it safely without years of practice. Instead, the recommended form of transport is the horse. You don’t need to be an accomplished rider as there are are plenty of horses available for hire who are used to novices and careful when carrying them.

You can ride alone or as part of a tour group, but in either case it’s a good idea to bring food and water – you can never be quite sure how long your trip is going to take. Stick to the trails to avoid getting lost – the interior of the big island is bigger than most people think, and it can be very hard to find your way in the tropical forest. You won’t miss out as a result – there’s still lots of see from the trails.

When riding through the interior of the big island, you’ll see sights which will really take your breath away. Great cliffs thousands of feet high dominate the view. The lush greenery makes a stunning contrast against the vivid sky, and you’ll discover warm pools of water where you can take a dip. There are also ancient relics to visit, like those in Waipio, the sacred valley of the kings.

Tempted though you may be by the sand and surf, there are treasures in Hawaii’s interior which you’ll never see the like of elsewhere – so do something a little different with your Hawaiian vacation, and you’ll really have something to write home about.
